It is with a heavy heart that The Michigan Irish Music Festival announces the cancelation of this year’s Michigan Irish Music Initiative at Áras Chrónáin on April 25, 2020. This decision was reached after much consideration and consultation. Our foremost interest is in the safety of musicians and festival officials, and generally, to play our part in preventing the spread of this global coronavirus epidemic.

The Michigan Irish Music Initiative was created in 2016 to bring the opportunity to perform in the United States to young Irish musicians who might otherwise not have that opportunity. We remain committed to that mission. When this virus is behind us, The Michigan Irish Music Festival will consider the best way going forward to continue this effort. We would like to express our gratitude to all of the musicians who stepped up to be involved with this competition, our partners, Áras Chrónáin, The Irish Traditional Music Archive, Irish Music Magazine, and our talented co-producer, Éamon de Barra.
