Bands must aim to emulate the excellence of professional performance-groups through their arrangement, choreography, presentation and stagecraft.

The Michigan Irish Music Initiative (MIMI) is one of the most exciting awards offered to young traditional Irish music groups. This competition is organized under the auspices of the Michigan Irish Music Festival and supported by the Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) and Irish Music Magazine (IMM). MIMI provides a platform for indepdendent bands and groups from organizations who focus on Irish traditional music to participate in a high-level competition. The winners will perform on the Main Stage at the Michigan Irish Music Festival in Muskegon, Michigan, September 17th – 20th 2020.

NOTE: Festival organizers from many other top festivals attend the Michigan Irish Music Festival, including Milwaukee, Kansas City, Dublin (Ohio), Syracuse (NY), La Crosse, The Wheatland Festival. This offers a unique opportunity for winners to present their music to the most influential industry leaders. Previous Performers Include: Altan, Damien Dempsey, We Banjo 3, Andy Irvine, Sharon Shannon, Tommy Makem, Slide and Solas
